DIY Reverse Cat Applique on a Hoodie

Today I started a new project - I think it's called reverse applique? But I am not sure.

I am practicing on my old pink hoodie using one of my favorite cat fabrics that I plan on using to also make scrub pants.. My mother did this concept on a sweatshirt many years ago creating a quilt star. I am not talented enough to do intricite work like she did. 

I lined up the cats I wanted to use on a iron board, placed pins to secure all the sides. 

Then I went to the sewing machine and started by creating a circle around the applique and started sewing. 

The thread was sewing too loose and it was more like a baste stitch.. So I tightened up the tension and sewed over it again and it seems better stitch.. 

I have completed two out of five so I have a few more to go. I hope that as I go through the other ones I will develop a confident craft and hope to use them. On my new pink hoodie! 

Would you ever try this? Where would you sew the appliques?
